We were very excited to meet up with David’s cousin Annie and her daughter Mika. The last time we saw Annie was 20 years ago! It was wonderful to see her again and meet Mika for the first time.
Mika has a familiar haircut and I know she will get on very well with my girls. She is also an excellent cook and made us delicious pasta and an amazing pavlova.

Annie has a delightful garden full of exotic fruit, vigorous vegetables and beautiful nooks and corners – there is room for everything including chickens.

We also met the cat and dogs, Peanut and Ollie – this is Ollie

Annie took us to the Moonlit wildlife sanctuary which was fascinating. I have never been to an animal park in the dark before and the animals were all very active
First we met Bradley the python

Then we fed wallabies and kangaroos;

Potteroos (extremely cute);

Saw the active mother and baby Koala called Banjo;

fed nectar to the sugar gliders;

Met wombats, possums, wallabies, a tasmanian devil, frogmouth owls, many more weird and wonderful marsupials – apologies for photos – it was dark…

But the most amazing thing we found out was that the ‘woof woof’ we heard on our billabong was NOT a dingo but an owl! They have the barking owl here and that is what it does: Woof woof!

This is a bush-stone curlew – I have seen some around Cairns- they make a very loud screaming racket if upset!

The volunteer who showed us round was very knowledgeable and very pleased all the animals were so active and interesting. I thoroughly recommend a night visit to animals if it’s available!

We went back to Annie’s for Mika’s lovely pavlova. It was great to enjoy such a warm reunion so far away from home and it shows no matter how many years it takes, no matter where you go, we will find you in the end!

Thank you Annie and Mika for a great night out and the invitation to London / Ascot is open – we hope to see you soon!
This was an amazing time for you to meet a family member after 20years. Hope you had a lot of stories to tell to each other…….
How good to see Annie and her daughter looking so very happy. What a great trip you are having.
