Mount Sorrow and a swim

Up crack of dawn for a fruity breakfast and a short drive to the start of our hike up Mount Sorrow – seen from our cabin in the fruit farm above.

Despite the name we were pretty cheerful as we haven’t had a proper walk for some time.

Mount Sweaty might have been a better name as it’s a hot day and going up a steep hill is warm work. It’s about a 700m climb.

The trees were lush, the vines twisted and the trees perfectly placed as hand holds along the well tramped path. This is definitely Tarzan country. This is the path

We had the mountain to ourselves and only met a couple of French lads coming down and one climber going up when we were descending. Lots of bird song but only one brush turkey – no tree kangaroos – not that we had much energy to look around!

At the top we had a view out both sides but we pressed on along a ridge that was a dramatic steep top but covered in trees so you can’t really see it on the photos.

This came out at a big rock where we could see far out to the South and see the ordered trees of our fruit farm below among the jungle of the rainforest.

David wrung out his neck cloth (nice) and we headed back down.

There were beautiful blue Triangle butterlies doing a dance for us

Then we headed back down – one steep section has rope to help you

Although only 7km it took us 5 and a half hours and my feet we quite sore and I was a bit tired!

So we had lunch back at our little cabin and went to Emmagen creek where there’s a safe swimming hole (no crocs) – it was cool and lovely.

We went back to the same local restaurant as yesterday as it was so good and saw lots of fruit bats (or flying foxes) like they have in the Seychelles on the way back.
