Road Trip begins – pinnacles and beyond!

We finally had a good night’s sleep and got our enormous 4×4 SUV & headed North. The roads are all new with a train down the middle of the highway – the benefits of pioneer planning!

We stopped on the way to visit Yanchep National Park where we walked around the lake admiring the bush with peeling bark trees & checking for snakes (we were warned) but only heard some slithering.

On the lake we saw lots of water birds & the green & bright colours were lovely. We also saw an Australian great swamp hen.

We also went on the koala board walk & having heard that they are usually very placid & hardly move, were happily entertained by one large chap who decided it was lunchtime & verily jumped down to the carefully placed eucalyptus leaves. It was a semi zoo area but it was still very lovely to see one. There were also some kangaroos lying in the shade.

After popping into another Woolworths (think Sainsbury’s) for supplies, we continued North through electric skies & dramatic rain to the Nambung National Park & the pinacles desert – which was spectacular.

Flynets were definitely a must for the walk!

They are not sure how these limestone deposits were formed- but they are young in geological terms (100,000 yrs). After buying fly nets we enjoyed the walk as well as the drive! We saw more gahlas and very tuneful ‘singing honeyeaters’ but the highlight was a properly wild kangaroo with joey in pouch!

We arrived in Jurien Bay in time to see the sunset!
