It is only blue for half the year &#8211; something to do with water temperature they think.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"11\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/BIRU-WP-20181113T112512GMT1030-1536x1152.jpg\" alt=\"11\/13\/18\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1152\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We also looked at the local sinkhole which was made into a garden with a little lake at the bottom in the 19th century. It then fell into neglect as the water table dropped and was basically a dump in a car park by the 1970s. It has now been lovingly restored to its former glory.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"11\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/BIRU-WP-20181113T115859GMT1030-1152x1536.jpg\" alt=\"11\/13\/18\" width=\"1152\" height=\"1536\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"11\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/BIRU-WP-20181113T115836GMT1030-1536x1152.jpg\" alt=\"11\/13\/18\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1152\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sink holes are common in this porous limestone.<\/p>\n<p>Then we finally made it to the farm! And the shearing was well underway.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"11\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/BIRU-WP-20181113T164656GMT1030-1292x1536.jpg\" alt=\"11\/13\/18\" width=\"1292\" height=\"1536\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Peter explained about classing the wool into different qualities do to with fineness and strength<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"11\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/BIRU-WP-20181113T135624GMT1030-1152x1536.jpg\" alt=\"11\/13\/18\" width=\"1152\" height=\"1536\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"11\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/BIRU-WP-20181113T140954GMT1030-1182x1536.jpg\" alt=\"11\/13\/18\" width=\"1182\" height=\"1536\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were 3 shearers and a sweeper &#8211; a peripatetic team going from farm to farm. They get paid per sheep and can do up to 250 sheep each per day! The sheep wait in nearby pens. This is the first one we have seen in Australia and it stands on the dunes behind lake Bonnie providing clean energy for the grid.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"11\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/BIRU-WP-20181113T153643GMT1030-1378x1536.jpg\" alt=\"11\/13\/18\" width=\"1378\" height=\"1536\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"11\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/BIRU-WP-20181113T154004GMT1030-1152x1536.jpg\" alt=\"11\/13\/18\" width=\"1152\" height=\"1536\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Peter also introduced us to his beautiful Hereford cattle &#8211; completely grass fed in open fields and he has his own bulls.
