We joined the commuters on the train feeling underdressed in our shorts among all the workers of Perth. We got off at Fremantle and went to the Maritime museum.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I got friendly with a shag<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

David checked out the yachts<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Including Australia II who snatched the America\u2019s Cup with her revolutionary fin keel.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

While I saw what happens if you circumnavigate the world 3 times!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

There was an exceptional exhibit on French exploration in Western Australia full of original sketches from the early 19th century<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

And I learned that they brought back kangaroos and emus for Josephine to enjoy at Malmaison!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

David discovered he has a cousin here on the welcome wall lists of immigrants who entered via Fremantle.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

We also visited the shipwreck museum which had a section of the 17th century Batavia that had foundered on a reef, preserved like the Mary Rose. In its cargo were lots of finished masonry which they assembled like a jigsaw & found it was to complete a gateway in Batavia. With all the ocean erosion it was beautiful.<\/p>\n

After lunch we had a lovely paddle in the sea and David met a nice lady.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

We headed back to Perth by ferry and finally saw Black Swans on the Swan river.<\/p>\n

We pressed on through ongoing jet lag & took the 10 min ferry across to South Perth & enjoyed views back to the city & more birds including a lovely family of Black swans.<\/p>\n
