The roads are all new with a train down the middle of the highway &#8211; the benefits of pioneer planning!<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">We stopped on the way to visit Yanchep National Park where we walked around the lake admiring the bush with peeling bark trees &amp; checking for snakes (we were warned) but only heard some slithering.<\/p>\n<p>On the lake we saw lots of water birds &amp; the green &amp; bright colours were lovely. We also saw an Australian great swamp hen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"Yanchep \/ WA \/ Australia - 10\/9\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181009T115628GMT0800-1536x1152.jpg\" alt=\"Yanchep \/ WA \/ Australia - 10\/9\/18\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1152\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full\" title=\"10\/9\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181009T122909GMT0800.jpg\" alt=\"10\/9\/18\" width=\"1374\" height=\"1030\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We also went on the koala board walk &amp; having heard that they are usually very placid &amp; hardly move, were happily entertained by one large chap who decided it was lunchtime &amp; verily jumped down to the carefully placed eucalyptus leaves. It was a semi zoo area but it was still very lovely to see one. There were also some kangaroos lying in the shade.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full\" title=\"10\/9\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181009T114843GMT0800-2.jpg\" alt=\"10\/9\/18\" width=\"1163\" height=\"871\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After popping into another Woolworths (think Sainsbury\u2019s) for supplies, we continued North through electric skies &amp; dramatic rain to the Nambung National Park &amp; the pinacles desert &#8211; which was spectacular.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"WA \/ Australia - 10\/9\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181009T153033GMT0800-1536x1152.jpg\" alt=\"WA \/ Australia - 10\/9\/18\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1152\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Flynets were definitely a must for the walk!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"10\/9\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181009T161958GMT0800-1536x1154.jpg\" alt=\"10\/9\/18\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1154\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"10\/9\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181009T153546GMT0800-1536x853.jpg\" alt=\"10\/9\/18\" width=\"1536\" height=\"853\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"10\/9\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181009T163257GMT0800-1152x1536.jpg\" alt=\"10\/9\/18\" width=\"1152\" height=\"1536\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They are not sure how these limestone deposits were formed- but they are young in geological terms (100,000 yrs). After buying fly nets we enjoyed the walk as well as the drive!
