The visitors all lined up on the beach to see the dolphins but as the torrential rain started up again everyone left the beach except us! We were quite enjoying the warm storm &#8211; the first proper weather we\u2019ve had here!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Helvetica;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"WA \/ Shark Bay \/ Australia - 10\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181013T083022GMT0800-1536x1140.jpg\" alt=\"WA \/ Shark Bay \/ Australia - 10\/13\/18\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1140\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We think we saw a couple of noses popping out but not dolphins. The arrival of a fishing boat failing 3 times to moor against the offshore wind (&amp; only managing to when David helped) would have scared off any wildlife, so there was officially a no show of dolphins today (a rare event!) Hopefully we\u2019ll have better luck tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"WA \/ Shark Bay \/ Australia - 10\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181013T083014GMT0800-1536x1193.jpg\" alt=\"WA \/ Shark Bay \/ Australia - 10\/13\/18\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1193\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The pelicans are very nonchalant &amp; carry on preening like a contortionist and hardly notice me at all:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full\" title=\"10\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181013T105300GMT0800.jpg\" alt=\"10\/13\/18\" width=\"915\" height=\"1220\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"10\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181013T105041GMT0800-1536x1211.jpg\" alt=\"10\/13\/18\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1211\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The weather soon improved and it is so restful and beautiful here we decided to chill &amp; not go on any 4 wheel drive tours etc. We walked down the shore &amp; saw crabs, more pelicans, a party of pied cormorants, caspian terns, plovers, sandpipers &amp; godwits who apparently migrate all the way from Russia &#8211; completing over 10,000 km &#8211; the longest bird migration.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full\" title=\"10\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181013T122001GMT0800.jpg\" alt=\"10\/13\/18\" width=\"976\" height=\"732\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"10\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181013T115931GMT0800-1536x1152.jpg\" alt=\"10\/13\/18\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1152\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"10\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181013T124033GMT0800-1536x830.jpg\" alt=\"10\/13\/18\" width=\"1536\" height=\"830\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large\" title=\"10\/13\/18\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.holloway.me.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/BIRU-WP-20181013T125008GMT0800-1536x1152.jpg\" alt=\"10\/13\/18\" width=\"1536\" height=\"1152\" data-json=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the dunes we heard &amp; then saw the chiming wedgebill whose tuneful repetitive song says: \u2018did you get drunk\u2019. I also saw my first fairy wren but sadly only the female who is not showy like her partner.
