We are now on Lizard island near the Great Barrier Reef for David’s birthday.

On David’s birthday we did 2 qualifying dives on the inner reef so we can now do scuba diving with an instructor to 12m.

Then we did 2 more dives on the outer reef the next day. That’s an hour out across quite choppy seas but it’s calm down with the fish!

We saw lots of lovely fish – here are David’s best photos from our snorkels and dives, we saw sharks, giant clams, and so many tiny fish in the coral too.

And baby giants – same big ones were well over 1m

A big lion fish – their spines are poisonous

The pictures don’t do it justice the colours aren’t so blue. Although the reef is damaged from bleaching and cyclones there is a lot of rgeneration

Many wierd life forms

Diving is very mentally and physically demanding – partly because we are not in our comfort zone and because it’s a new skill requiring concentration

David had a lovely birthday

After diving a nurse shark came to see if there was any lunch left – they can’t see well with their tiny eyes and are gentle

I can’t imagine how much your enjoying this is amazing.
